The Lavan Sands is a vast tidal bank of sand and mud, roughly triangular in shape, between Bangor and Llanfairfechan. A small car park is located at the Morfa Aber nature reserve, just north of Abergwyngregyn. The immediate shore is muddy, but a walk of half a mile in either direction leads to a narrow shoreline of light shingle, coarse sand and (mostly cockle) shells, backed by the coastal path and agricultural land. The lower shore is of mud and sand. The photo above shows the shoreline east of the car park, looking towards the Great Orme.
