Rest Bay is situated to the west of Porthcawl, and is a sandy beach with some rocks and pebbles, backed by low cliffs and a golf course. Lifeguards patrol from June to September (10.30 - 18.00 weekdays, 10.00 - 18.00 weekends). A dog ban operates from 1st May to 30th September. Facilities at the beach include toilets with disabled facilities, a slipway, a cafe, showers and drinking water. Parking is at a P&D car park which is just a short walk from the beach.
It's usually a good beach for surfing and windsurfing, and often gets very busy. One of the hazards is a strong rip in the direction of the town which occurs near the point after mid-tide on a rising tide. Surfers are warned to keep on the golf club side of the lifeguard station until the tide is clear of the point. Surfers and others are also advised to avoid hiding car keys on or near their cars due to recent thefts.
