Anyone travelling from North to South Wales or vice-versa, will almost certainly use the A470 through Dolgellau. Pont Llanelltyd is a five-arched stone bridge crossing of the Mawddach just about ¼ mile off the A470, south of the A496 (Barmouth) junction.
A parking area with picnic tables is pleasantly situated under trees, and parking is also possible on the road. The old road bridge now only carries pedestrians. A pool in the river is deep enough for swimming and is a popular cooling-off place for the local children. It's a good place to stop for a break /swim / picnic if driving this way on a hot day. The bridge affords some good views of Cadair Idris (in the background, above).
